Happy Holidays from Market Wagon's CEO, Dan Brunner

Happy Holidays from Market Wagon!

We'd like to think we are a part of your family in some capacity. In the least, we deliver food that you have on your tables and in your bellies, so that's something pretty intimate, right?

So! Here's a Holiday Card from our family to yours!

We didn't go on any big holiday excursions, but a few trips worth noting by our Market Wagon family.

  • Courtney from Pennsylvania donated broken zipper tote bags as part of a mission trip to Lepaterique, Honduras.
  • Karen donated damaged tote bags to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and represented Market Wagon at Holden Arboretum's Annual Member Night
  • John from Indiana and Jody from Illinois went to St Louis to cement and to celebrate the local merger with Find Your Farmer
  • Ray from Tennessee ventured south to help bring small-grove south Georgia citrus to many Market Wagon service areas.  This is a rare exception to our always-local mission, but we do it because citrus is in demand and does not grow locally in our current areas.
  • Rachel from Indiana ventured to the Indianapolis Zoo to help four of our entrepreneur-maker-vendors gain exposure through their ginormous annual Zoobilation event.  4,000 food items, delivered and consumed in one evening!

2023 was a tough year for many grocery delivery start-ups as the end of the pandemic coincided with reduced opportunities to obtain outside investment and greater expense in spreading the word to customers like you.  That’s a triple whammy for these types of businesses!  But Market Wagon navigated the choppy waters, had a solid year, and hit some important milestones:

  • We have delivered over 750,000 orders, all time
  • We have served over 75,000 customers, all time
  • We have delivered items produced by over 3,500 small farms and food artisans, all time

Our Market Wagon team has been working extra hard this year to hit new highs for product availability, tech advancements for better user experience, and more efficient delivery service. We make sure to still have time for fun group activities, and here are some of the things we've done together!

  • Indoor go-karting (some serious speed demons on our team (cough Robert and Brian cough) and “only” a few injuries to report)
  • Bike trip to Field Brewing on Indy's great bike paths
  • Bowling (granny style to expert, we've got em all!)
  • Potlucks, soup days, and a burger lunch on the well-worn tiny Weber charcoal grill

Looking to 2024 – where are we going?  More importantly, what’s in it for you!  And how can you help us?

  • Our shopping experience keeps getting better!  Easier access to gift cards, less clutter on the main products page, and better filtering so that you can more quickly see the things you will want to buy are all rolled out or in the works.
  • Our small but mighty team of food foragers continues to search high and low for the most authentic, local, interesting, sustainable, and nutritious local food offerings that can be on Market Wagon.  Many of them come to us, but we go looking when there is a need.  Do you have a favorite farmer or maker that you buy direct from?  Let us know!
  • Our Wagon Pass pre-paid delivery membership program remains a huge success.  It was so successful in 2023 that it started to be unsustainable, as enthusiastic shoppers were getting deliveries for next to nothing.  So we had to raise the price for 2024.  We hope you don’t mind…it’s still a fantastic deal!  And you can still get an annual membership for the old price until December 31…almost a 30% savings off the new price,
  • Find Your Farmer taught us that some people do want subscriptions to carefully built mixed orders that they don’t have to shop for, so we’ll be rolling out enhancements to that part of our offering.
  • Help us end 2023 on a solid note by ordering this week!  Take advantage of our MWHOLIDAY5 discount for $5 off a $75 order.  Note our revised holiday schedule – all the normal delivery days will happen, but the schedule is modified for locations that have Tuesday delivery.

We so appreciate your support of your local food growers and makers, and of Market Wagon, throughout the years.

We wish you and yours a happy holiday!
